US Senator, Lindsey Graham has died at the age of 71, according to an announcement by his office.
A statement on his X account announced that the sad incident took place on Saturday evening after the Senator suffered a “brief and sudden illness.”
US President Trump also mourned Senator Graham through a post of Truth Social saying he will be greatly missed and that details and arrangements will follow.
An eventual ally of President Trump, Senator Graham was controversial for his support for Israel and its war in Gaza. He was also quite supportive of Ukraine and had just returned from a trip to the country where he was critical of Putin and his war in Ukraine.
Brief Political History
Senator Graham worked as an Attorney in the US Air Force before entering politics.
In politics, he served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1993-1995 and then in the U.S. House of Representatives, from 1995-2003 where he represented South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District.
He became a Senator for South Carolina in 2002 where he was serving before his passing and was due for reelection this November.

Following the untimely death of Senator Graham, South Carolina law allows the Governor to select someone from any party to fill his position until January 3 2027.
Since Graham was the candidate of the party for November elections, the Republican Party must nominate a new candidate on August 11 for the November election.
