Former Deputy Governors of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna have respectively emerged as governorship and senatorial candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano.

The revelation was made by Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on social media following a stakeholders’ meeting of the NDC, chaired by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso at his residence on Miller Road in Kano

Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo was the Deputy Governor of Kano state until his resignation in March after the Kano state House of Assembly began impeachment proceedings against him.

Nasiru Gawuna who was selected as the NDC senatorial candidate for Kano Central was the deputy Governor of Kano State between 2018 to 2023 under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

He recently resigned his appointment as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) appointed by President Tinubu to contest for the Governorship ticket of the APC.

According to Sen Kwankwaso, the decision was made “in the spirit of equity, fairness, loyalty, and competence — values that remain central to our party and Kwankwasiyya’s progress and unity.”

The choice of candidates is sure to heat up the race in Kano State.
