Kidnapping and torture of Student by bandits angers Nigerians

John Arum, a student of the University of Jos, is believed to have been kidnapped by bandits while traveling to Kaduna.

According to accounts on social media, the kidnappers sent a distressing video to his school’s WhatsApp group showing him being severely tortured and demanding ₦30 million for his release.

In the now viral disturbing video, Mr John is held at gunpoint while two unmasked bandits severely beat him with large sticks as he begs for mercy.

At one point, he screams Jesus when the beating gets more vicious which only compounds his situation as the bandits increase their beating and threaten to shoot him.

The incident immediately drew anger from the Nigerian public who are fed up with the government’s poor handling of security.

You’d wake up not even knowing if you’d be the next victim of such an atrocious ordeal… this country is finished

The security situation in the country appears to be growing worse by the day.

Terrorists have increased their attacks on civilians and on military personnel and installations, leading to many deaths and worsening humanitarian crises.

In reaction, President Tinubu yesterday summoned an emergency meeting with security chiefs in Abuja following the recent events.
